Common questions

Why convert JPG to AVIF?

AVIF is the most efficient mainstream image format available — it commonly produces files 20–50% smaller than JPG at the same perceived quality. If you publish images on a website, AVIF loads faster and uses less of your visitors' bandwidth, which also helps your Lighthouse and PageSpeed scores.

Do all browsers support AVIF?

All current versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera display AVIF natively. Very old browsers don't — the standard approach is to serve AVIF with an automatic JPG or WEBP fallback. For maximum compatibility everywhere, keep a JPG copy too.

Does converting lose quality?

Both JPG and AVIF are lossy by default. We convert at quality 85, which is visually indistinguishable from the source for almost all photos while still being much smaller. If you need pixel-perfect output, PNG is the right choice instead.

Is there a file size limit?

Free users can convert JPG files up to 25 MB without an account, or up to 10 conversions per day with a free account. Pro users get 500 MB per file and 3,000 credits a month. Business users get up to 5 GB.
