Common questions
What encryption is used?
The modern standard that 7-Zip, Keka, WinRAR and most archive tools recognise. This is deliberately not the legacy scheme that older tools produce — that one is broken by a known attack and should not be relied on for anything private.
What can open the archive?
7-Zip on Windows, Keka or The Unarchiver on macOS, and p7zip or Ark on Linux. Windows Explorer and macOS Finder can list an encrypted archive but will not open it, so it is worth telling your recipient which tool to use.
Are the file names hidden too?
No, and it is worth being clear about that. A ZIP keeps its list of names and sizes readable so any tool can show what is inside before asking for a password. The contents of every file are encrypted; the names are not. If the names themselves are sensitive, zip the files into an inner archive first and protect that.
Do you keep my password?
No. It is used once to build the archive and is never written to disk or logged. If you lose it the files cannot be recovered — there is no master key, which is the point.
Can I upload a whole folder?
Yes — that's the point of the tool. Pick a folder or drag one in, and its structure is kept inside the archive, subfolders and all. System files like .DS_Store are skipped, and any file of a type we can't take is left out and listed before you upload. Up to 200 files per archive, and the total has to fit inside your plan's upload limit.
