How it works
Common questions
When should I use PNG instead of JPG?
Use PNG when you need lossless quality, a transparent background, or when your image contains sharp text or line art. JPG compression can introduce visible artefacts around edges and text — PNG avoids this entirely by storing exact pixel values without any lossy compression.
Will the file size increase when converting to PNG?
Yes — PNG is a lossless format, so the resulting file will generally be larger than the original JPG. The exact increase depends on the image content, but it can easily be 3–5x larger. This trade-off is worth it when image quality and accuracy matter more than file size.
Can I get a transparent background from a JPG?
Not directly. JPG files have no transparency data — every pixel is a solid colour. Converting a JPG to PNG will give you a PNG with a white or coloured background, not a transparent one. To get transparency, you would need to remove the background in an image editor like Photoshop, Figma, or Remove.bg before or after converting.
Is there a file size limit?
Free users can upload files up to 25 MB per conversion. Pro users get 500 MB, Business users 5 GB. Most standard JPEG photos and screenshots fall well within the free limit.
